Criteria participation Main Software 50

Companies must comply to the following criteria in order to be included in the Main Software 50:

  1. It must be Dutch software companies (so no Microsoft, Oracle etc).
  2. Only independent software companies can be on the list (so no daughter entities of larger internationally operating companies).
  3. Stock listed companies are not considered (so no Microsoft etc).
  4. A company is considered to be a ‘software company’ in case at least 15% of its revenue consists of software revenue based on its own IP. The definition of software revenue includes: total of license revenue, maintenance & SLA income and SaaS revenue.
  5. Only companies that participate are published on the list. In exceptional cases, a company can be included on the list if its financial statements are publicly available.

Composition list and ranking

Companies can apply by digitally submit our questionnaire consisting of 12 questions. The questions are about revenue, number of FTE’s and the respective sub-segment in which the software industry the company is active. If the company is placed in the top 50, only the sub-segment and a company description will be published (results 2020). Other submitted information, including financials, will be kept strictly confidential and will only be used to draw general conclusions on the subset.

The companies on the list will be ranked based on 5 criteria:

  1. Substance (revenue size)
  2. Revenue growth
  3. Quality of revenue (recurring vs one-off)
  4. Degree of internationalization
  5. Partner strategy
We take the greatest care in processing the information. The renowned ICT research bureau Dialogic has been asked, for the 6th time in a row, to fulfill the role of independant ‘audit partner’. Dialogic Innovation & Interaction is a established research- and advice company with years of experience in mostly IT related industries. Involvement of Dialogic as audit partner assures that the process of composing and ranking the list will be performed correctly and independently.
Main Software 50 will be launched in corporation with the Dutch IT magazine AG Connect.
